Scanning at liverpool Vascular Clinic
At the Liverpool Vascular Clinic we use a few types of scans to help identify and treat numerous conditions. The scans will often be included or be part of your treatment plan with us. The main types of scans we use are Duplex scanning (Arterial or venous) and CT Scanning
The Treatment & Process
A full and comprehensive range of treatments is offered by the Liverpool Vascular Clinic who will assess and provide the appropriate treatment for you. Below are some of the most common scans we provide as part of your assessments and treatments.
Duplex Scanning
A duplex scan uses ultrasound to produce images of blood vessels and blood flow. Most commonly thought of as the type of scan pregnant women receive to see their baby’s progress.
We can then use these images to tell us where there may be blockages in your arteries and veins, the size of the vessels and any problems with any valves in your veins.
Our professional trained clinical vascular scientist will carry out the procedure which is quite painless with no side effects or risks.
This type of scan is often part of your assessment and ongoing treatment and if required we will give you all the information needed for you to prepare and understand how and what happens during your scan.
CT Scan
At Liverpool Vascular Clinic may use CT scanning (CAT Scan) to help us assess, identify and continue your treatment plan with us.
CT scanning is a powerful tool that can produce detailed images of many structures inside the body, and especially for us, images of your blood vessels and veins.
Part of the scan may involve you may be given a special dye called a contrast to help improve the quality of the images.
During the scan, you’ll usually lie on your back on a flat bed that passes into the CT scanner. The scanner consists of a ring that rotates around a small section of your body as you pass through it.
Unlike an MRI scan, the scanner doesn’t surround your whole body at once, so you shouldn’t feel claustrophobic.
This type of scan is often part of your assessment and ongoing treatment and if required we will give you all the information needed for you to prepare and understand how and what happens during your scan.
